Gun Cleaning Patch Catcher

It’s easy to take gun cleaning for granted. The drudgery associated with cleaning can be minimized by using the correct tools or accessories that make the task easier.

Over the years, I’ve established a routine for barrel cleaning. I place a rifle in a cradle and clean from breech to muzzle if possible. I hang the muzzle over the end of the bench so that a 5-gallon buck will hopefully catch the dirty patches when they come off the end of a cleaning rod. This is better than letting the patches drop to the shop floor, but it could be better.

A Better Solution

When I discovered MTM Molded Products’ Gun Cleaning Patch Catcher, my cleaning chores got a boost. The patch catcher doubles as a splatter box when using a brush, too. It works equally well with rifles or shotguns. As the brush leaves the barrel it sprays solvent all over the place, which can mess up almost any surface it lands on and is probably not the best thing to inhale. The patch catcher acts as a patch trap and does not allow any of those dirty patches fall on the floor. As the patches accumulate they will start absorbing the extra solvents for easy clean up. The Patch Catcher’s size conveniently allows you to stow it away, nor will it take up to much room in your gun cleaning kit with its compact 10.3 x 2.3 x 3.6 inches tall size.

The patch catcher is attaches to the barrel by slipping it over the muzzle and pulling on the rubber tensioning strap. It is designed to fit .22 long rifle barrels up to most double barrel shotguns. Clear green plastic lets you keep track of when patches start to come out clean.

This device keeps solvent where it belongs, in the barrel or ready for the trash.

The MTM Patch Catcher retails for $11.95. Order yours online at Amazon today.
