Ruger Super Redhawk .44 #93: America’s 100 greatest Guns

Ruger developed the Super Redhawk as a hunting pistol that could chamber the big bore magnum loads. Initially offered in the powerful .44 magnum, the Super Redhawk borrowed design elements from the GP-100 .357 magnum and added a more robust frame, longer barrel and integrated scope mounts.

The Super Redhawk utilizes a triple locking cylinder that holds six rounds of ammunition. This revolver is available in .44 magnum, which can also chamber the .44 special. It is also available in .454 Casull, which can also chamber the .45 Long Colt. In recent years, the .480 Ruger caliber was added. The entire pistol is stainless steel construction and features a 7.5-inch or 9.5-inch hammer-forged barrel.

This Ruger is known for its accuracy and robust feel. While some shooters opt for a light-weight gun, the heavy weight of this pistol helps to manage felt recoil and muzzle climb.

Adding a scope to the integrated mount gives hunters an option when hunting medium to large game. The Ruger Super Redhawk is coveted by many shooters for its quality feel, accuracy and big-bore stopping power. This pistol continues in production today as a popular hunting pistol.
